COMBAT TRAINING WITH WEAPONS MUST BE INJURY FREE
Not many kungfu practitioners nowadays know how to apply their unarmed kungfu patterns for combat. Knowing combat application of weapons is naturally even less.
Surprising it may be, in many martial art schools today sustaining injuries in sparring is taken for granted. This is quite ridiculous. A main aim of practicing any martial art is not to be hurt at all in combat. This is expecially important in combat application with weapons.
In our school combat application, whether unarmed or with weapons, is not only injury free but also full of fun. Of course, one must be able to perform the weapons patterns in solo very well before using them in combat. As in unarmed combat, picture-perfect form is necessary to get the best technical advantages in weapon combat.
Hurting an Opponent with his Own Weapons
Here is a subtle counter against an opponent using the butts of his Butterfly Knives to attack you. You can kill him with his weapons! But to be merciful you may just slice his arms.
Your Counter can be Mild or Severe
What would you do if your opponent uses your weapons to hurt you? An effective counter is the versatile “Bar the Big Boss”. If he is a nice fellow, you can merely poke him with the butts of your Butterfly Knives; if he is nasty, you may slice him.
Tips of Knives must be Pointing Outward
Course participants are reminded that when they hold their Butterfly Knives in a reverse or yin-way, it is very important to ensure the tips are pointing away from their body. Do you know why?
Using an Opponent's Momentum against Himself
Here is how you may use an opponent's momentum against himself when he attempts to push your Butterfly Knives back to you. Do you know how this can be realized?
Moving on to Sequence 6
In Sequence 5 the Butterfly Knives are held in a reverse way. In Sequence 6 the Butterfly Knives are held in the normal way.
Double Whips Strike Tiger
The patterns in Sequence 6 are “Double Whips Strike Tiger”, “Double Swallows Turn Body”, “Bail Moon from Sea Bottom” and “Rhinoceros Looks at Moon”. Notice the difference between “Double Whips Strike Tiger” and “Fierce Tiger Descends Mountain” found in an earlier sequence.
Why do you Turn Around?
Why do you turn around after the pattern “Double Whips Strike Tiger” before moving forward? Why don't you move forward straight away without turning around? The turning around pattern is called “Double Swallows Turn Body”.
