THE TACTIC AND SKILL OF FOLLOW THROUGH
An important tactic and skill very effective for combat is introduced here, namely "follow through" or "shui yap" ("sui ru" in Mandarin) which literally means "follow in". Suppose you are applying Combat Sequence 3 to attack. You opponent successfully counters your first attack. But after defending your second attack, he hesitates in his counter. You do not wait for his move, you follow through with your next attack which in this case is a low punch. If he hesitates again, you follow through by repeating Sequence 3, starting with a middle punch.
Sometimes he hesitates or is slow in his defend, not just in his counters. In this case you strike him with your first attack. You don't have to wait for his next move, you follow through with your second and other attacks. For example, if he is slow to defend against your first middle punch, after hitting him you follow through with your palm thrust to his throat, and then follow through with a low punch. Of course you have to cover him adequately in your follow-through attacks. .
