THE OUTSIDE-IN OR INSIDE-OUT APPROACH

When using the in-gate defence, it is important to keep your guard-hand ready
We may ward off an opponent's attacks from inside-out or from outside-in, which will open or close an opponent respectively. At this stage, it is advisable to use the outside-in approach to close an opponent. The other approach and other techniques can be learnt later. Right now it is important to be able to perform this outside-in defence well. However, if an attack is too far to a side, we may use an inside-out approach, in which case the other hand must be on guard.
